Pirates

"I've been half dead all day."

There's a few pieces of advice that clicked with me today.  First, don't let anyone else define success for you.  If the group you went to school with are now billionaires and you are a father with a modest career, that's okay.  Forget the "fear of being left out" or keeping up with the Joneses.  I like the below paragraph, which I thought was from Emerson but apparently is not.  In any event,

"Success”Inaccurately attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

Secondly, if you leave warm, moist nuts in your warm, moist room during the day, they get fuzzy.  So eat your nuts at work so they don't get fuzzy.

Fuzzy petri dish.

Lastly, never get involved in a land war in Asia.

"If you don't have six fingers on your left hand, please go watch some 'Criminal Minds' on CBS."
