Mead (not only because I haven't had any of my own for two months!) is on my mind. Over the last three days I've gone over the 180 or so entries on www.gotmead.com for meaderies in the US to see where they are located. This is out of my own curiosity (TDY/vacation = meadery tour!) but will also fulfill the project for the mapping course I've been taking. The course lets you use ArcGIS online, too so I got to play with that software. I wouldn't say I've learned that much and am interested in taking the online versions, but the tuition isn't worth the cost now. Anyway, based on the data, I see a few things:
- It appears the meaderies are in similar or the same locations as befit wineries. Some meaderies are colocated with wineries or some wineries also make mead. For my data, I excluded these and stuck to pure meaderies.
- Many of the meaderies follow mountain chains: Applachians, Rockies, Sierra Nevada and Casacades.
- None of the meaderies has been around for more than 12 years.
Things like the Society for Creative Ananchronism (SCA, famous for LARPing and this), Renaissance Faires and "Game of Thrones" have brought mead back to the forefront. Thank you fellow geeks and nerds, for making mead a viable drink in America in addition to light beer.
Saw "The Dark Knight Rises" again tonight. Thoughts on that tomorrow.
Been discussing the possibility that my workouts might be too brief. Will rest a few days and try more than one main exercise per workout.
Tonight, however...
Warmup: chinups 8, 5, 3
Workout: Telephone pole cleans 5-115, 5-115, 5-115
Cooldown: 5 55lb kettlebell goblet squats
More eggs and beef...
