Tried to post this last night, but it didn't take...
Sam and I discussed the possibility of an all meat diet. It would be relatively easy out here: get steak, eggs and chicken every meal. I have a drawer full of cans of fish and supplement with coffee and water. It would not be as delicious as Andersen and Stefansson's diet (we don't have oxtail, marrow, rib connective tissue, etc. here) but I think it would still be quite satisfying. No decision yet, but I could see this being a 30 day diet.
Since I've been here, I've finished Cryptonomicon, Storm Front, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Me Talk Pretty One Day and Holidays on Ice. For those of you interested, here are my thoughts.
No workout tonight and tomorrow I'll be back on shoulder press; deadlift on the 3rd. Apparently, I'm almost as strong as Wolverine.

Since I've been here, I've finished Cryptonomicon, Storm Front, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Me Talk Pretty One Day and Holidays on Ice. For those of you interested, here are my thoughts.
- Cryptonomicon - Great book! If you can't stand math digresssions amongst the plot, then that would be annoying, but I found it very informative. It could definitely be a miniseries (one season) on HBO. It is combination geek strikes it rich, treasure hunt, WWII Marines kill, nerdy mathematician saves the Allies and falls in love and everybody makes money
- Storm Front - Chicago based magician/detective stops an amateur magician from killing people with his summoned demon. Includes snarky quotes such as, "Paranoid? Probably. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't an invisible demon about to eat your face." and “I'd made the vampire cry. Great. I felt like a real superhero. Harry Dresden, breaker of monsters' hearts.” I understand why the cancelled the TV show after one season.
- The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - Kind of a let down, really. I did hear echoes of Benedict Cumberbatch's (say that British actor's name five times fast...drunk) voice while reading Holmes reprimanding Watson for his lack of observational skills. I'll probably borrow some of the Holmes books at the library to see how many other criminals SH lets go.
- Me Talk Pretty One Day - Took a little bit to get into it, but once I did it was worth it. David Sedaris has a knack for making everyday events absurd and bizarre.
- Holidays on Ice - Sedaris again, this time with five short essays, most of them obviously made up.
Right now I am splitting my time between the following two tomes:
- Good Calories; Bad Calories - This one contains a lot of science, but is actually really hard to put down. I am roughly a third of the way into it and am simply appalled at the manner in which the scientific studies (observational, clinical and just plain sloppy) that were universally agreed upon and those that were dismissed since they didn't fit in with what was already believed. So many doctors, scientists and (yes, shocking) politicians ignored the data in lieu of what they wanted to believe, or stated "even though we don't have enough data now, let's make a recommendation to the public." Granted science isn't simple and it is easy to review the history of multiple studies that Taubes compiled and say, "Obviously they were wrong/biased/predisposed/prejudiced/idiots." while sitting in my room calming sipping aRayyan water
- Life of Pi - A little slow getting started, but finally the kid is on a lifeboat with a tiger. He's made a list of his survival supplies. Thankfully the font is large enough and the chapters are short enough that it feels like I'm reading a lot each night.
I washed my sheets and shook out my carpet for the first time. I think it helped, but we'll see what it looks like in two months. My predecessor had one in the room and then got rid of it due to the sand, dust, hairs and blood stains.
