After reviewing the opening lines of 100 great books, I realized I had only read maybe two or three of the books on the list. In reviewing the Modern Library's list of 100 Best Novels, I've read 12 of the editor's list and 18 of the reader's picks.
I've been considering James Joyce's Ulysses since high school when I found out it was considered obscene. Apparently it is free from the Gutenberg site; I'll check if the library has a copy, as I prefer turning actual pages.
Last night I stopped at the library to look for (what else?) books on physics. I saw a few copies of Einstein, apparently not about the dog from Back to the Future. Anyway, I also found David Kahn's The Codebreakers (on my Amazon wishlist), another David Sedaris book I haven't yet read and Batman and Philosophy. I got the philosophy book and one other one...even though I'm already reading two others. I'm a sucker for good books. Plus, the Batman book goes with this History Channel show I watched a few weeks ago. Nine years ago I read The Matrix and Philosophy and Taking the Red Pill: Science, Philosophy and Religion in the Matrix, which were decent enough to pass the time. They discussed Plato's cave, Buddhism and how Neo, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Vishnu and Odin will team up to destroy the artificial intelligence humans will create in about 500 years.

There is a theme here, I just know it. |
