Another slow day at the office, so I watched some videos (thanks to Stanford's Open classroom!) on Practical Unix, aka catch up on what's been happening in computers since 1972. I've been toying with Linux since college (the netbook dual boots into Kubuntu) and keep learning more in fits and starts. One day I'll know how to host my own Apache server from the comfort of my mother's basement
I don't usually watch the Ellen Show, but Hulu sends me emails and this is hilarious:
Did a modified Diane tonight:
warmup: 10 knees to elbows, 10 back extensions, 10 OHS, 10 pullups and 10 pushups
workout: 21-15-9 185 deadlift; 30lb dumbbell shoulder presses: ~12 minutes (didn't have my watch with me)
skill: 7 behind neck tricep extensions (25kg dumbbell)
Post workout meal: hamburger topped with two fried eggs, two beef sausages, covered in salsa and a salad
Started reading Gary Taubes' Good Calories, Bad Calories finally. I read his Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It a few months ago and so far GCBC feels like a longer version of the same. Other books on my reading list, in the order they are piled on my shelf:
- Storm Front, Jim Butcher
- The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
- Quicksilver, Neal Stephenson
- The Kitchen God's Wife, Amy Tan
- Into Thin Air, Jon Krakauer
- Life of Pi, Yann Martel
- Zodiac, Neal Stephenson
- Blood Rites, Jim Butcher
- The Dante Club, Matthew Pearl
- Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris
- The Intelligent Asset Investor, Ben Graham (with commentary by Jason Zweig...I wonder if there's a Jason Dreig?)
- Security Analysis, Graham and Dodd
Any suggestions for other books?
